Lobo

Man, you can tell it was the early Nineties! Lobo was like Gene Simmons and Rob Zombie and the Punisher all in one. I hated the character. Still do. What's the point of making a character that powerful and then giving him a chain weapon? Whatever. he was a popular request at the time. I liked how he turned out but would do him a bit better now, I think. with real chain like Guy Gardner.

Metamorpho

Was just coming off of his stint with Justice League West Coast or whatever bicoastal thing they were doing then. I always liked him and thought he was never fully utilized well. I did the removable hammer fist too. I can't say DCD stole that as it's a pretty obvious idea. Plus I probabaly copped it from the Cyborg figure that Kenner had made earlier.  :) Suoerman with shaved head and sculpted eyebrows.

Nightwing 01

I guess I like or dislike characters first based on their outfits. I never liked Robin enough to just like this character for who he was. And they didn't win me over with this  Sigfried and Roy George Perez ensemble, that's for sure. Sadly, it stuck. I don't care how dark they draw him now or how many girls they put him with - this is the guy I think of as Nightwing. Hey I'm not looking for every character to be as butch as Wolverine, but c'mon! This costume was a challenge and I ended up doing the lines with a Rapidograph. I did the next version of this costume for a client as part of a huge New Titans set, but it was only done as a loose figure, I never did a card for him. THAT costume was better and you can see it i the Loose Figures section.

Robin

As I said - I am not a big enough Robin fan to really care, but man DC had their way with this character in the Nineties! After putting Dick Grayson in the gay circus outfit, killing off Jason Todd and seeing a red-headed girl be cooler than any Robin since or before - DC settled into this Tim Drake version. Sort of like a Gee-Whiz, Harry Potter kid, he was hard not to like. But his costume isn't! Gad it sucks. But anyway - I did this figure a full year and  half before the Kenner version which came out in 1992 during Batman Returns because there had been a rumor  that Eddie Murphy was going to play Robin. Their version even sports a fade haircut. Hey wouldn't THAT have been a great Joel Shumaker bit of fun! This was a customer request. Utilizing the ever popular Will Scarlet face, I liked this figure pretty well, but would probably change a few things if I redid him.

Rogue (In the Savage Land)

Don't ask me. Again - one of only 2 Non-DC characters I did in the EP imprint packaging. Both for the same client. There was a story arc where some of the X-Man got spirited off into a place called "The Savageland" and their costumes got a bit worse for wear. This client wanted a figure of Rogue that way. I made it. Pretty happy with how the sculpted 'Flashdance' layered clothing came out. Otherwise - this figure remains an enigma to me...

Speedy

Another character DC had their way with. Before making him a heroin addict, he was simply Green Arrow's sidekick and  member of the Teen Titans. I took a mold off of the Green Arrow SP figure and cast it in yellow Friendly Plastic. The figure is the smiling version of the Kevin Costner Robin Hood. Note this early prototype picture before I had added the "extra power" text in the bubble. :)

Supergirl

I tried to do a lot of female figures since Kenner had released a wretched 32:1 male to female ratio on their own. The sad part of that is that I had exactly ONE female body to use for customs. It meant constant sanding. I did all these before I ever owned a Dremel! This is the only post-blue skirt version of Supergirl's costume I didn't completely hate. I even turned down a commission for a customer who wanted that horrible Loverboy headband version. Some things just shouldn't be remembered. Looks like DC will be doing one though. Which is fine, because that's one less DCD figure I have to pay for! She is sporting a ToyBiz Superman cape and color-molded hair.

Wondergirl 01

Again, I prefer the late 60's/ early 70's "modern" version of these characters. This was an easy conversion, but I would tweak the belt a bit on the next go around. I was asked to do the costume of "Troia" as part of the big Titans project I did for a customer and you can see her in the LOOSE section.
